abstract

Rubén Darío expresses in his poetic and prosaic work the main concerns of the artists at the turn of the 20th century. He is one of the founders of the modern Hispanoamerican short-story, important for the subject matters and also for its form. Darío concentrates on three major topics: the relationship between the artist and the society; the fantastic motives and the situation of the Hispanoamerican countries and their future. His vision is often bitter and sad, but despite that, Darío always craves for harmony: not just a poetic one, but also a harmony of a human being with the Universe.
