Vošahlíková, Pavla: Zlaté časy české reklamy (The Golden Age of Czech Advertising)
Dealing with the unique world of Czech advertising before World War I, the author describes the victorious advance of advertising through the world of consumption and production, viewed against the background of the global ?modernisation? of the Czech society after the fall of Bach absolutism in 1859. Vošahlíková traces back the gradual change of shop designs, the revolutionary arrival of shop?windows and department stores, the rise of paid advertisement in the press and the contribution of new technologies to the development of advertising. The role of advertising in the big exhibitions presenting the progress of Czech industry at the end of the 19th century is also mentioned. She also describes in detail the specific development of advertising posters, slogans and packages of consumer goods. This representative work contains a rich set of images and this book was awarded in the Most Beautiful Czech Book of the Year competition, in 1999.
