MUDr. František Koukolík’s successful book, Obsession with Power, has made a comeback to the book market in a new edition, significantly revised and completed with rich factual documentation. Since the book’s first edition was published by Karolinum Press in 2011, the phenomenon of power seems to have gained in significance and has spread into many, essentially all areas of the life of humankind on the Earth. This new edition is based on statistics, interpretation of events around the globe, results of surveys and psychological experiments, including the scholar’s area of sphere of expertise – neuroscience as a source of knowledge about the innermost human stimuli and deviations. This view is, however, always facilitated by the use of critical reason. Using the lens of critical reason and providing broad circumstances, the scholar draws a picture of the world, which is becoming an increasingly more alarming.
