Muzeum vesnice jihovýchodní Moravy (Strážnice Open-Air Museum of Rural Architecture in South-East Moravia) in Strážnice is a part of the Na- tional Institute of Folk Culture that acts as its promoter and specialist guaran- tor. The systematic preparation

and the following construction of the area commenced in 1973 and continued with breaks until 1991. The theoretical model of an ethnographic open-air museum's area came into being in cooperation of two experienced architects - Eng. Arch. Otakar Máčel and Eng. Arch. Jaroslav Vajdiš - and one not less erudite ethnographer - Prof. PhDr. Václav Frolec, CSc. The mutual cooperation resulted in forming the new landscape of settlement, which - in its individual are- as - captures the features of regional house-types in Moravian Slovakia. Since 1981, the following areas have been opened to the public: Moravské Kopanice, Luhačovické Zálesí and Horňácko, suitably completed with the grounds of technical water buildings, vineyards and meadowland. The individual complexes located into the artificially formed terrain show an example of the distinctive appearance of residence, farmstead composition and amenities of dwelling rooms and outbuildings. After having been installed carefully, all the buildings have been furnished with original ob-

jects from the NÚLK collections. The exhibitions of folk manufacture and spe- cific ways of agriculture represented by considerably extended regional wine growing complete the individual expositions.

The trained guides providing a lot of information concerning individual buildings and destinies of their inhabitants accompany the visitors of the open- air museum. Nowadays, we try to extend our offer of visitor's presentation by special thematic programmes focused on traditional handicrafts, rural works and annual habits; there are e.g. the programmes "The Alphabet of Handicrafts", "Autumn in the Country" and the Christmas programme with carols.
